In Northeastern Minnesota, jobs growth and long-term prosperity are tied to a thriving mining industry.
The current publicly reported estimates of the nonferrous mining opportunities suggest there are very significant deposits with a 50-year-plus project life, providing good jobs and career opportunities, significant tax revenues and long-term prosperity for our region.
Our governor, legislators and our president need to get fully behind the mining industry and demonstrate more leadership and can-do, will-do attitude to make sure the Minnesota nonferrous opportunities are capitalized upon.
Environmentalists need to take a more positive role instead of raising unfounded roadblocks and red flags and espousing fear. Minnesota has a thorough environmental regulatory process and its regulatory agencies are staffed with talented and dedicated professionals.
The mineral exploration and mining companies are taking rigorous steps to ensure the environment is protected within the law and beyond. We all want to protect our beautiful northwoods, pristine waters and air quality for generations to come. Let’s all work together using American know how, innovation and will power to get these projects running the right way.
The economic impact will be positive for all of us.
For example, in the last two years, IDEA Drilling has doubled its employment to approximately 150 people, purchases with area suppliers and retailers has substantially increased, and we have been able to make more contributions towards community activities, scholorships and charities.
Where would we be without a growing mining industry? Where will we all be with it?
