Minnesota lost 1,400 jobs in September, but the state’s unemployment rate fell to 2.8 percent.

The seemingly conflicting results stem from the number of unemployed falling at a higher rate than the number of those with jobs. Labor force participating in the state — those working and those looking for work — fell by 6,625 people, according to the annual report by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development.
