Study shows Mining impact triples tourism

A Canadian National train carrying 6,000 long tons of ore slowly leaves the Eveleth United Taconite plant for a 10-mile trip to Forbes.

Minnesota’s iron mines generated more than $96 million for communities in 2017, according to the 2017 Mining Tax Guide, published this week by the state Department of Revenue.

The tax dollars were distributed this year and based off 2016 production, which totaled more than 29 million tons of ore — the lowest rate since 2011, said the Iron Mining Association.
