Regular Meeting held at the Rock Ridge Administration Building – 1405 Progress Pkwy, Virginia, MN. Board Members present: B. Addy, N. Culbert-Dahl, T. Riordan, S. Scholz, M. Sjoberg, T. Tammaro, J. Uhan (left at 7:00 P.M.). Board Members absent: B. Lautigar, P. Sorcan. Staff: Supt. Schmidt, J. Carey, S. Aune, W. Spelts, S. Manni. 1. Call to Order. Chair Scholz called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call. 2. Seating of newly-elected board directors. John Uhan and Nicole Culbert-Dahl recited the School Board Member Oath of Office and were welcomed onto the board. 3. Approve Meeting Agenda. Motion to approve the agenda made by Riordan, seconded Sjoberg. Motion passed unanimously. 4. Truth in Taxation Presentation. S. Aune provided a report for the Truth in Taxation presentation Pay 22. Motion to approve certifying the levy for 2022-2023 at $4,207,275.42 made by Tammaro, seconded by Uhan. Motion passed unanimously. 3. Recognition of Visitors and Visitor Input. Murray Anderson. 4. Consent Agenda. Chair Scholz announced corrections to the Winter Coaches spreadsheet – removal Jack Gritzmacher and Katie Rigstad (already board hired). Motion to approve the Consent Agenda as amended made by Addy, seconded Riordan. Motion passed unanimously. • Approval of November 22, 2021 regular meeting minutes. • Approval of payment of the bills. • Approval of hire of Jeremy Deedrick (0.8 FTE Title I Interventionist), Bridget LaCoursiere (Para Educator), Mindy Stanaway (Para Educator), Laurie Stewart-Warner (Special Education Teacher), Paul Brainard (Homebound Instructor), Amanda Rasmussen (Special Education Teacher), Danielle Westling (transfer to Temporary Para Educator), Winter Coaches for 2021-22, and Addison Johnson (Volunteer Coach Track and Field). • Acceptance of resignation of Tim Tammaro (Custodian/General Maintenance/Grounds/ Driver). • Acceptance of donations from Frank Haege ($100) – #RRR Campaign; Jennie (Witty) Emcott and Family ($100) – Steve Kerzie Legacy Fund; John and Sue Pearsall ($100) - #RRR Campaign; Mike, Marc, and Mitch Muhich ($150) - Boys’ Hockey in memory of Dave Hendrickson; Cory Groves ($250) – Dallis Frandsen Music Learning Lab; Anonymous ($500) – Choir and Band Programs; Greg and Jane Gilness ($1,000) – Industrial Arts and Music Departments and the RRHS Aquatic Center scoreboard in memory of Darrell and Jeanine Gilness and Verne and Lina Ojanpa; Mr. and Mrs. William P. Welch ($2,000) – First Rock Ridge Robotics Program ($2,000 for 10 years) and ($7,500) – Classroom Dedication for Mr. Bill Welch and his brother, Joe Welch; Ben Deutsch ($5,000) – Baldrica Learning Lab; Stephen Gentilini ($5,000) – Baldrica Learning Lab; Dr. Cameron and Ruth Jayson ($5,000) – Bill Lavato Music Learning Lab; Seppi Bros. ($33,000) – Naming Rights to the RRHS Varsity Softball Field (first of three payments); Anonymous ($75,000) - #RRR Campaign. 5. Reports. W. Spelts gave a Fundraising Report. J. Carey reported on the legal process for closing schools, the demo process of the Roosevelt, Gilbert buildings update, Manual Arts Building and other Eveleth buildings update, sale of uniforms, and the sale of other unneeded school items. Board recommended parceling the properties in Gilbert and placing them up for sale. Director Uhan left the meeting at 7:00 P.M. Supt. Schmidt reported on the current COVID-19 numbers in the district and the Strategic Planning. • Motion to select Dr. Noel Schmidt to act as the Strategic Planning consultant made Addy, seconded by Tammaro. Motion passed unanimously. 6. Administration Items. Proposal by Orthopaedic Associates to occupy part of the Rock Ridge Administration Building in turn providing opportunities for our students to be directly involved in healthcare careers and learning opportunities. Board will re-visit proposal at the January 10 meeting. Motion to approve moving Stacy L Aune into the district-wide Curriculum Instruction and Integration position and moving Brad Matuszak from the 3rd/4th online course into Stacy L Aune’s STEAM position and to stop offering the 3rd/4th online course because of low student numbers effective January 3, 2022 made by Riordan, seconded by Tammaro. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to approve request from Virginia Area Historical Society for artwork and artifacts held in the Roosevelt Elementary School to be donated to the Virginia Area Historical Society made by Tammaro, seconded Addy. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to approve the proposed non-negotiated rates of pay made by Addy, seconded by Tammaro. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to approve the Resolution Establishing Combined Polling Places for School District Elections Not Held On The Day Of A Statewide Election made by Riordan, seconded by Tammaro. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to cast votes for the MREA 2022 Board of Directors election for the North Zone made by Riordan, seconded by Addy. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to cast votes for the RAMS Executive Board election made by Addy, seconded by Sjoberg. Motion passed unanimously. Motion to approve Tim Riordan as a nomination for the District 11 MSBA director made by Tammaro, seconded by Addy. Motion passed 5-0 with Riordan abstaining. 7. Policies. Policies That Must Be Reviewed Annually: Motion to approve the second reading of Policies 410, 414, 415, 506, 514, 522, 616, and 806 made by Sjoberg, seconded by Addy. Motion passed unanimously. Policies with revisions suggested by MSBA/MASA: Motion to approve the second reading of Policies 102, 406, 413, 425, 501, 503, 507, 515, 524, and 534 made by Addy, seconded by Tammaro. Motion passed unanimously. 8. Meeting Announcements were made. 9. Adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 7:42 P.M. 10. Reports: S. Manni gave his report on the happenings at Roosevelt Elementary.
